Tyronn Lue’s Early Life and Career

Lue attended Raytown Senior High School in Raytown, Missouri, where he made it to the All-Metro team. He graduated from school in 1995 and joined the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he studied sociology and played basketball as a Nebraska Cornhusker. Lue started his NBA career in 1998 after being drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the 23rd overall pick. Tyronn Lue’s Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Lue became the Director of Basketball Development for the Boston Celtics in 2009. He worked under Doc Rivers, who mentored him as a coach. In 2011, he was promoted to assistant coach of the Celtics. In 2013, he joined Rivers as an assistant coach of the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2014, he was hired by the Cleveland Cavaliers as an associate head coach under David Blatt

In 2016, Lue was promoted to head coach of the Cavaliers after Blatt was fired mid-season. He became one of the few rookie coaches in NBA history to lead his team to an NBA championship that same year. He also became the first African-American coach to win an NBA title.
