American musician, singer, and composer Tom Verlaine. As the guitarist for the American rock band Television, he is best known.
He was raised in Manhattan with his older sister and was born to a French father and an American mother. Tom picked up the guitar when he was 12 years old.
At the age of 12, Tom Verlaine began learning the guitar, but he didn’t take it seriously until he was 16 years old, when he joined a group called The Del-Vetts after hearing them on WNEW-“Unusual FM’s Suspects” show.
He has also released albums with The Fuzztones and The Fleshtones, with whom he is a member. The influential band Television was founded by Tom Verlaine.
With Television, he launched his songwriting career in the late 1970s. Artists like David Bowie, The Clash, and Talking Heads have covered his tunes.

Additionally to releasing albums with groups like The Headmen and The Voidoids, Verlaine has done so under his own name. After seeing him perform with his own band, Richard Lloyd (later of Television), who was his introduction, suggested he join Television as their guitarist in 1977.
